Second day

Tuesday morning started as usual with staff meeting. As sleepy as I was I still could not ignore Kristi who whispered with tinkle in her eyes – there’s rumcake availab le at local shop and it costs only 4 EEKs. Local shop is really small but offers surprisingly wide variety of groceries, including some pastery. But unfortunately I do not have any cash in the camp (I’m too much dependend on bank cards I guess). So apparently I looked desperate when Karin approached me and lent me 25 EEKs. I hurried back to shop and brought a rumcake and it was gooood. So before the lunch I thought that I might buy another one for desert but the cakes were sold out. Well there were only 5 of them in the shop and the news of their goodness spread pretty fast.

Anyways, I had busy morning and noon before the lunch because I tutored two honor workshops “Basic rescue” and “Physical fitness”. I got Ivo as my assistant and before the workshop we rehearsed several moving possibilities. First he was the victim and I moved him and then we swapped roles. Well, it was not the best idea. We tried the trick how to lift and carry a heavier person on someone’s back and then the next moment he was on the grass and I was lying on top of his back and he could not lift me up. And then Madli was peeking out of the big tent and asks, what kind of porn is going on here. If it wasnt pathetic it would have been hilarious. Anyways, Ivo lost his interest in being my assistant and left. Fortunately I didn’t need his help anymore because now I knew how to perform the lifts. Unfortunately also my the knees of my light grey trousers were now more greenish than anything. So much for having nice outfit for Sabbath to come 😦 Workshop itself was quite fun and both I and the attendants enjoyed it.

The other workshop was fitness and here I was totally amazed by the fact that only one who took interest of this workshop were three 10-year-olds. But they were so cute and eagerly tried all the exercises I demonstrated. They even voluntarily took a short run in order to measure their heart rate after excercise and did pushups with such enthusiasm that gave me reasons to smile.

The afternoon was overshadowed with clouds and rain. The other thing that I forgot to bring to the camp was raincoat of some kind. But I had umbrella in my car buy chance. And it saved my afternoon  – the program was obstacle course for pathfinders,  they had several challenges and I was standing at one checkpoint and checked their math skills. They hopped to my point with balloons between legs and I had several small fans there who collected balloons and carried them to one tent – to make sea of balloons. I can’t imagine them swimming there very successfully though..

Another example of staff black humour. The temporary trumpeteer had two problems. First, his trumpet blows reminded rather young and insecure elephant than camp signals. Second of all he was too absentminded and missed the occasions several times. So when we were in staff room and complained, what to do, there sounded a simple solution – lets beat him.

After the evening program we had first campfire. Some pathfinders had built a platform form bonfire and kudos to them, we could warm ourselves around it and sing songs. Some of them were improvised and silly, but most of them some common worship songs. It was really nice and had a good effect on me. I made less stupid jokes in late night staff meeting. Well another reason was that I brought my toaster upstairs and shared with others late night snack of chocholate-nut cream on wholegrain toast. That was delicious as well, almost as good as rumcake. Good night!
